BIG news

This entire year that I've been home from The World Race, I've dreamed of being back out on the field. I struggled A LOT this past year with what God really wanted me to do with my future! I spent a lot of time trying to do what I wanted instead of just surrendering to what He wanted me to do.

As I learned over and over last year, God loves us so much and He wants to give us the desires of our hearts. What He has for me is far greater then anything I could ask for or imagine.

That being said, my BIG news is that He has not only called me back out to the mission field, but He's called me to use my skills of photography to raise awareness about injustice in our world. I will be attending the PhotogenX Discipleship Training School (DTS) with Youth With a Mission (YWAM). The DTS will incorporate a classroom phase and an outreach phase. I will be gone from April 5, 2012 - September 19, 2012.

One Year Ago.....

It's been a year! Can you believe it! I've been home from the World Race for ONE year!

God has some amazing things planned for my future and I'm really excited about it. Thanks for your continued prayers and I will be posting a BIG announcement soon about where God is taking me next!

Life in the USA

It's been 5 months since returning to the USA!

Wow! Time has sure been flying by!

Since returning home I've been waiting on God to show me where He wants me next. I know that He wants me to continue to do missions and He has given me a passion for photography. I had a few job offers to return to corporate America, but I knew that going back into a corporate job was not what God had in store.

So I started my own photography and craft company, Jeanne Kay Photography & Crafts (www.jeannekayphotography.com). I've been busy making purses out of fabric I purchased in Kenya last year, doing some video editing projects and taking pictures. Check out my website for details about the purses if you are interested.

Then God opened another door. A chance for me to work for a professional photographer and still have time off for missions. And to top it off the job is in a place I love.....Branson, Missouri!!

Therefore, on Monday, May 2nd I'm transitioning again. I'm moving to Branson to begin the next leg of my journey. I can't wait to see what God has in store for this next season of life.

Regarding missions, I'm planning a trip back to the Philippines at the end of this year or the beginning of next. Want to head back to Kenya next summer and Haiti next fall. I Expected....but

Going into this trip, the following song lyric is how I felt.

I'm gonna make a change, for once in my life.
It's gonna feel real good, gonna make a difference.
Gonna make it right.

I expected to make a change. I expected to make a difference.

I expected to help those in poverty. Instead, I was challenged by their love for God and each other despite having nothing.

I expected to rescue women out of prostitution. Instead, I was challenged to love a person right where they are even if they don't want to change.

I expected to empower women. Instead, I was the one empowered.

I expected to preach and teach. Instead, I learned.

I went off to change the world and instead I was changed.

I realized from the very beginning that I had to change myself before I could even consider impacting anyone else. Michael Jackson had it right when the song lyric goes on to say:

I'm starting with the man in the mirror.
I'm asking him to change his ways.
And no message could have been any clearer.
If you want to make the world a better place
take a look at yourself then make a change.

Once I got over myself, God allowed me to be involved in helping those in poverty, rescuing women out of prostitution, empowering women, preaching and teaching.

The following quote are the words inscribed on the tomb of an Anglican Bishop (1100 A.D.) in Westminster Abbey in London.

"When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world; As I grew older and wiser I realized the world would not change and I decided to shorten my sights somewhat and change only my country. But it too seemed immovable. As I entered my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I sought to change only my family, those closest to me, but alas they would have none of it. And now here I lie on my death bed and realize (perhaps for the first time) that if only I'd changed myself first, then by example I may have influenced my family and with their encouragement and support I may have bettered my country, and who knows I may have changed the world."

From The Mouths of Children

A couple of Sundays ago I had to opportunity to speak to a group of Czech middle school students about The World Race and what God has been doing on this trip. Prior to me sharing, the Sunday School teacher taught about prayer and how important prayer is to our daily lives. Prayer is one thing that God has used in mighty ways this year. The prayers I pray, those of my teammates, squadmates, supporters and family have meant so much. God hears us when we cry out to him. He wants to us to talk to him about everything, not to just come to him when we are in need, but all the time.

After I got finished showing photos, videos and speaking about all that God has been doing this year, the teacher asked if I would come to the middle of the room so they could lay hands on me and pray. It was one of the most special moments on the World Race. I didn't understand what these students were saying since they were speaking their native language, but it was beautiful.

No matter what language you speak, cry out to God. Do you hear Him? He's answering…..you just have to listen.
